DETAILS
Pamphlets are building blocks both physically and conceptually. When learning to bind books, pamphlet stitches are often the earliest sewing techniques one learns, as they can be built upon to form multiple signature books. They can be utilized to work through smaller ideas that eventually amass towards a clearer project, while a single pamphlet is a fully realized book in its own right. Participants in this skillshare will learn the basics and several variations of pamphlet binding, and will push the boundaries of these flexible techniques, sharing their discoveries with different sewings, cover options, and the development of their own signature combinations. Instructor Michael Darcy is a photographer and bookmaker living in Rochester, NY. His practice focuses on books and photography, through which he explores how form, materiality, and structure impact our experience with content. Michael is a VSW Project Space resident October 11-November 8.
