In this hands-on session, participants will transform a short sequence from an analogue film into a unique flipbook. Emerging in the 1860s, flipbooks have developed close ties with the medium of cinema. Participants are encouraged to bring their preferred material in digital format, or choose a film from a selection of films provided in the workshop. This is a great opportunity to repurpose your own 16mm or Super8 film material or explore found footage, and experiment with aspects of moving images. Instructor Claudia Claremi uses film to explore collective experiences, memories, and shared imaginaries. Her work is focused on activating the unconscious mind and revealing the structures of Western modernity. She is a VSW Project Space resident September 6-October 4.
